This piece holds a special place in my heart, created in 2024 for a dear friend, Nancy Lynn. Titled Rock Island on Otty Lake, it captures a beloved landmark near Perth, Ontario, where Nancy and her family have spent many years, ultimately making it their permanent home.

Otty Lake is a place of change, yet its rich history and landmarks, like Rock Island, remain iconic. The island was once a popular gathering spot for boaters and cottagers, where people would leave behind painted artwork and graffiti on the rock surface, which would fade and renew every year. In this painting, I’ve preserved a piece of that history with a subtle, reddish patch on the rock face—an abstract reference to the Canadian flag that had been repeatedly painted over time.

Nancy shared stories and photos that brought this spot to life for me, and I wanted to capture the essence of Otty Lake’s clear waters, expansive skies, and the serenity that has defined her connection to this place.

The perspective of the painting was inspired by Nancy’s vision—a view from the water’s edge, as if we were paddling past in a kayak, intimately connected to the landscape. It was a true honor to create this piece, and I hope it continues to evoke fond memories for Nancy and her family, preserving this moment in time for years to come.
