I love every commission I work on—they challenge me and allow me to explore new landscapes and perspectives. This one, however, stood out because of my personal connection to the area, the wonderful people involved, and, let’s be honest, the sheer size of the canvas. At 86 inches wide by 60 inches tall, this is the largest single-canvas landscape I’ve ever created, and the process confirmed what I’ve come to realize: large-scale formats are the perfect medium for my work.

This piece was commissioned by a dear friend who shares my love for the outdoors and Frontenac Provincial Park, specifically Big Salmon Lake. The lake’s dramatic lighting and vibrant colors inspired this artwork, particularly the way the sun dances across the trees and water. Initially, we considered cooler tones, but through collaboration, the warm, autumn-inspired palette emerged as the perfect fit, enhancing the flow, layout, and emotional depth of the piece.

This artwork took several months to complete, allowing time to refine the balance and bring out its full potential. It’s a celebration of nature’s beauty and the connections we share with the landscapes that inspire us.

I had been following Andrew’s work for a time and finally decided to speak to him about a commissioned piece. Am I ever glad I did!! Working with Andrew has exceeded anything I could have imagined and he truly captured the essence of what my husband and I envisioned. He brought our love of Frontenac Park to life with incredible detail, creativity and skill. The piece now has pride of place in our house and is the object of much adoration. When the sun shines through our window, the light reflects the shadows on the water in the piece, which is truly brings it to life. It is incredible.
